How Families in Faith started

Families in Faith got its beginning as weekly emailed resource to better equip parents to pass the faith onto their children in an “as you go” manner. Wherever we find ourselves, and wherever we may be on the path of our own faith journey, the number one responsibility we have as Christian parents is to teach our children about Jesus, guiding them towards heaven as their home. Families in Faith has always been envisioned as a means to helping parents in that mission today.

Families in Faith – an online community (http://familiesinfaith.org)

FamiliesInFaith.org is a virtual community that creates a place where parents and families can share ideas, strategies, encouragement to others as they seek to pass the faith along in their own homes.

When it comes to passing on the faith to our children, we could all use some creative ideas.  Sometime we are the ones who have the creative ideas–sometimes someone else’s idea sparks our creativity!  This is a place to go when you are looking for things to do with your children that will help guide them to Jesus. This is a place to share what works (or what didn’t), a place to share where you found ideas. This is a place where you can ask questions and be supported, or to share your trials and find that others face the same challenges.

The community is the content. The more people who visit the site and add their thoughts, ideas, questions, and stories, the better resource familiesinfaith.org is for everyone.

Will you add to the site? Will you share some stories of faith development from your home? Add comments to what other people are doing. Have a question about what to try when it comes to praying with your 2nd grader? This is the place.

Make familiesinfaith.org one of your regularly visited web sites. This can be the one-stop-shop for parents who want to pass the faith on to their children.

A Biblical Road Map

The number one responsibility of Christian parents is to teach their children about Jesus. We help them–winsomely and unapologetically–and we guide them towards heaven as their home. The Bible gives a road map for how to accomplish this:

Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. Love the LORD your God with all your hearth and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.    ~ Deuteronomy 6:4-7

This road map actively involves us as parents. We are to live and model the faith–to love the Lord with all our heart, soul, and strength; to keep God’s commands upon our hearts and impress them on our children. We accomplish this mission best whenever we talk about God and His love for us in Jesus as we go about life.

There is no church program or one-size-fits-all toolbox that accomplishes this mission as effectively as when God works through the care, love, and intentional conversation of parents as they talk about faith in Jesus in a natural, “as you go” manner. These conversations are God’s-given-ways to “up the odds” of our children being rooted in Christ by faith for the long haul, so that they would grow for a lifetime.

Just a little more about us…

As an online community, FamiliesInFaith.org does not belong to any particular church or organization–it’s designed to meet people’s needs globally through the world-wide-web. However, you may want to know a little bit more about who is working behind the scenes.

Dr. Joel Dietrich is the Minister to Families at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Springfield, Virginia. He is the creative engine behind Families in Faith, both the concept and the video email content.

Pastor Ken Green is the Equipping Minister at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Springfield, Virginia. He is one of Joel’s partners in ministry and has helped to create this online community using tools created by wordpress.org.

  1. We are a very small group of christian day care providers with a dream that every child in the world start the day with a bible verse in their pocket. We maintain the only website in the entire world with free PRINTABLE bible verses. http://www.bibleparent.com. We saw your website and it is the only one we know of where a church focuses on EQUIPPING parents to be the spiritual leaders their children need. We would like it very much if you could add a link to http://www.bibleparent.com to your site. Another of our sites is http://www.teachustopray.com, helping parents make prayer a HABIT in the lives of their children. This habit is the one thing most likely to connect a child to a church for life.

    • Charles, thank you so much for your comment and your words of affirmation. Yes, we are passionate about equipping parents and families to share the faith in their own homes. It is God’s design and research verifies that it is *the* effective way to pass on the faith from generation to generation.

We are also in the process of app development for all mobile platforms and formats (iOS, android, tablets and phones) so that parents can have these tools at their fingertips. Late summer or early fall will be our app launch.

Please subscribe to the weekly email by clicking the “subscribe” link or texting the word “families” to 22828.

God’s blessings on your ministry as you equip families!

  2. Just found your site through a Pinterest Pin (In case you want to keep track!). Love your phone app. I shared it on FB and Twitter. I am also working on a resource page (still under completion) for my blog – embeddedfaith.org and I hope to include it there as a family resource. Look forward to your future posts and ideas.
